To celebrate Luna Luna’s revival in our new home — Los Angeles’ Arts District — we’ve partnered with 3 of our favorite artists in the neighborhood: Alfonso Gonzalez Jr., Mario Ayala, and Sonya Sombreuil.

About the Artist

Alfonso Gonzalez Jr. is an artist whose work developed from close observation of his father’s skillful trade as a commercial sign painter and his own experiences hand-painting billboards throughout the United States. He draws on the permanence of hand-painted signs and physical remnants of the Los Angeles weather to tell his own familial histories of labor and image-making. His paintings document the layered interactions found on public surfaces that bear visible traces of the community’s relationship to public space, prompting viewers to consider the rapid change of the landscape in Los Angeles.
