Susanne Schmögner

Susanne Schmögner designed an immersive labyrinth for Luna Luna. Visitors moved through hand-painted materials forming spirals, meeting two diety-like sculptures in the middle who handed them a copy of the poem “Golden Age” by Arthur Rimbaud.

Susanne Schmögner is a painter, illustrator, stage and costume designer, and makeup artist best known for her large-scale outdoor sculptures and immersive installations.
For Luna Luna, Schmögner designed an immersive spiral-shaped labyrinth. The materials forming the spiral features hand-painted sets of gridded and coiled lines, bird flocks, and flowers. At the center of the labyrinth, a black and gold deity-like sculpture and a smaller cat-like figure handed viewers a copy of French Symbolist poet Arthur Rimbaud’s “Golden Age”—which speaks of the power of works of art to transcend reality.
Schmögner collaborated with Heller again to create a playground of sparkling sculptures resembling genies and spirits for Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens, Austria. She also created a sculpture of a creature with a pointed head peeking out from behind a cluster of plants and a kiosk-like wooden installation painted with animals and insects for Heller’s Botanical Garden in Gardone Riviera, Italy; and a series of sculptures camouflaged amidst nature for Heller’s ANIMA Garden in Marrakesh, Morocco.
